Three things to say when you've just seen a show on someone elses dime and not liked it very much...

1. "The set design and lighting was amazing."
2. "I can honestly say I've never seen anything like that before."

    Set design and lighting complements are the ultimate get out of jail free card. Also costumes, when appropriate.

    The tragedy is the set design etc actually WAS fantastic but the entire show was about 10 trillion hours too long. Still at least the booze was free...

    It's easier than if you know someone that's in the show. You can't talk about the sets then.
